Identify 5 things learned about using Photoshop and Illustrator together
Place PSD file in Illustrator as smart object so whatever you do to the image in Photoshop will change up in illustrator.
Blend modes: most are the same in Photoshop and Illustrator. Use them to get really good effects and realistic looks.
Build no fill, no stroke bounding boxes in both Photoshop and Illustrator so when you place a smart object it will place exactly over the other one and you do not have to adjust the image to make it fit.
When you adjust the text color or anything in Illustrator you must save before the change appears on the Photoshop file.
You can record actions and this will save time to edit a lot of photos the same way.

Mask Tutorial
I found a really simple beginner tutorial about working with masks. I thought this would be fitting, since we are starting with masks today!

Centering
This photograph is a great example of centering. Not only is the object centered and framed with the trees in the background and side frame, but the reflection off of the water also centers the castle. Without the aspect of centering on the water, this picture would just be a plain photo of a castle.

Leading Lines
Love this picture! Not only are the colors awesome, but the lines in the photo are great! The windmill is focused in the center of the photo and is made even more noticeable by the lines leading up to it that are created by the field. Beautiful!

Photo Composition
I love this photo because it has more than one photo composition element that makes it great to look at. One element is simplicity and the other element is the concept of leading lines. There are 2 different directions that lines are traveling in this photo. Yet, they all work together to create the one line leading from the bottom left corner to the top right corner. Leading lines give this photo great structure. This photo is a JPEG image.
This photo represents the "rule of thirds" element of good photo composition. The intersection points of the rule of thirds all have points of interest. The main portion of the photo, the bird, consumes the right two points and the distant background is balanced on the other two points located on the right. This gives the photo good balance and makes it appealing to the eye. This photo is a JPEG image.
This photo can also represent two photo composition elements, centering and lines. The alignment of the photo is semi-symmetrical and even. The positions of the men create lines that direct your eye to the center subject. This photo is a JPEG image.

Principles that Make a Good Design
Rhythm is what makes this advertisement so attractive. Different colors of the drink create a progressive pattern of rhythm. The use of white as a background helps the colors stand out and be the main focus. The Vitamin water label gains attention by being the only main bold black text.
Dominance is created in this design by the single chip being the only large object on the page. The text that describes the sections of the "food pyramid" are the sub-dominant elements. These elements gain your attention after the chip, yet the text is what makes the advertisement memorable and attractive.
